What can you do to help?

Since many of our children with intellectual disability have no family other than the one they are part of at LITTLE EDEN, there are numerous opportunities for outsiders to assume the mantle of caring aunties, uncles, teachers, guardian angels and benefactors.

We always welcome visitors to our Homes! If you want to meet the children and have a tour of our facilities, please contact us to set up an appointment.

You can make a difference by donating of your time, skills and second-hand goods. Give us a call to find out where we need help.

Apply for a MySchool card
You can help support the children of LITTLE EDEN without spending a cent extra – simply by applying for a MySchool Card naming us as the beneficiary, and swiping it every time you shop at Woolworths, Engen, Wimpy, Spur, ToysRUs and other participating retailers.

The My School Card is not a debit or credit card; it simply tracks transactions made at the till and allocates a proportion of the sale to the nominated charity. More than R1.5 million is disbursed to various schools and charitable organisations through the system every month.

Click here to download the application form now - or apply online at http://www.myschool.co.za/ordercard/normal. You will also find a full list of particpating stores on the website.

Volunteer
LITTLE EDEN volunteers are not expected to feed or bath our children. Rather, they give of their time, one day during the week, between the hours of 8h30 and 13h00 to help our teachers and therapists.

By doing so, they add value to the programme, as our children benefit from one-on-one contact and attention from friendly visitors.

The residents also appreciate interactive sessions [about 1 hour] of sing-alongs, bubble blowing, reading a story picture book or beach ball fun in small groups.

For more information, kindly contact Dot Fouché on tel. +27 01

Sponsor a birthday party
Birthdays are a special time at LITTLE EDEN, usually celebrated with a little party – and with 290 residents, there's a birthday to celebrate almost every day!

Contributions to the party are always greatly enjoyed and appreciated. Please contact Dot Fouché on tel. 609 7246, or info@littleeden.org.za if you would like to sponsor a birthday party – by providing the birthday cake, cup cakes [without paper or cream, just a little butter icing], chocolate, chips [soft types like Cheese Curls/Flings], soft sweets [no boiled sweets or suckers], ice-cream in 2 or 5 litre tubs [no lollies or cones], fresh fruit [e.g. bananas, pawpaw, melons, apples, pears, oranges and naartjies] and cool drink [fizzy or fruit juice].

Gifts in kind
While monetary gifts are the most flexible way of supporting
LITTLE EDEN, there are many day to day items that are always needed, and donations of these items means we don't have to budget to buy them.

In particular, we always need good quality used clothing in all sizes, especially socks, pyjamas and tracksuits, bedlinen, toiletries and office consumables (e.g. paper, stationery, specific ink cartridges, etc).

Sponsor a child
It costs R4 000 per month to care for just one child – taking into consideration the 24 hour nursing care most need, the food, special therapy sessions, medication and equipment.

If you are able to commit to sponsoring a particular child, it would be wonderful! Please click here to make set up your monthly contribution online.

Recycle
Bring your old glass and paper to our Edenvale Home and you'll help raise funds for your favourite charity too!

EDENVALE RESIDENT CYCLES ARGUS RACE FOR LITTLE EDEN

A bet placed in Spain between a group of Edenvale men not only led to a major lifestyle change for one of the guys, but also benefitted the children of LITTLE EDEN.

The men, who all grew up in Edenvale, went to Spain earlier last year to watch the Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix. While out in Barcelona the night before the race, great claims of sporting prowess were made and eventually bets were taken. The outcome was that Peter Jenkins would do the Argus Cycle race in 2008 - in less than 3 hours!

It was unanimously decided that the beneficiary of the cash would be LITTLE EDEN, as selected by Peter Jenkins. Although the challenge touched on the impossible, Peter took it very seriously. He got together some of the finest trainers available, and did many exercise routines and training races in the months that followed.

On the morning of the race, Peter was finally rewarded for months of hard practice, as he finished in 2 hours and 57 minutes!

The group involved handed over the cheque to LITTLE EDEN recently when they paid a visit to the children. Says Mrs Lucy Slaviero (CEO of LITTLE EDEN): “It is humbling and encouraging to know that our children are remembered by all the wonderful people in our community. LITTLE EDEN is very blessed to have such loyal friends!”
