Twenty-eight years ago, a little girl with intellectual disability was admitted to our Home – and has lived there happily ever since. Today, Candy is a grown woman, although her mind remains child-like. Her pride and joy is her Frozen duvet cover, which she got for her birthday last year, and her collection of pin-up posters, photographs and hair clips.
Sadly Candy’s mobility has deteriorated over the years and she is now wheelchair bound. But that doesn’t prevent her from helping out at the Village. She likes looking after the smaller children, especially her favourites – Xolane and Tshepo.
She shares a room with her best friend, Daniella, who makes her bed for her every morning now that Candy can no longer manage that task. In the evenings, the friends enjoy watching movies and listening to Candy’s small radio.
We are so grateful to our wonderful supporters who make it possible to offer children and adults like Candy a home for life, in a place where they are safe and contented. Thank you for everything you do to help make this possible.
