Little Dikeledi has cerebral palsy and cannot do much for herself. She can’t talk or move independently and is very small and petite for her age.
At LITTLE EDEN, Dikeledi, aged 6, sits in a customised wheelchair, which provides postural support to enable her to interact with her surroundings and the people around her.
She has also benefitted greatly from music therapy. Reaching out to try and create sound on the drum, piano or chimes helps her control her movements and strengthens her arms and hands.
Music therapy has also helped her develop nonverbal communication skills and provided a way to express and process emotions. All of this has boosted her self confidence to the point where she now actively shows interest in others and communicates with her caregivers and the other children through responsive facial expressions and smiles.
A long term goal is to improve her ability to chew, so that she can enjoy a wider variety of food and textures. Support from caring people like you makes it possible for Dikeleli to receive all the specialised care she needs to make the most of life, despite her disabilities.
