You might think that a child with profound intellectual disability doesn’t understand much, and isn’t capable of deep feelings. But you’d be wrong – often our children amaze us with their ability to empathise with one another and their need to offer comfort when they sense someone is feeling blue.
Busi and Mokgadi are best friends. Even though we know they like to spend their days together, we didn’t realise how deep their affection ran until both children went home for the holidays. Mokgadi left before Busi and was absolutely devastated when he got back to find her gone! He was utterly inconsolable and cried and cried until he saw her again.
