Huge thanks to those who have already participated in our 5th Annual Wheelchair campaign. So far, leaders from the SA Federation for Mental Health, Discovery Health and Leapfrog Property Group, Jhb North East have spent a day at work in a wheelchair. We hope many more will join in before the campaign ends on 31 March. By doing so, you help raise awareness and funds for LITTLE EDEN.
We supply the wheelchair. All you have to do is make your contribution and choose a day to participate. Funds raised go towards the care of our special angels, most of whom have physical disabilities along with profound intellectual disability. These children and adults and depend on wheelchairs every day of their lives.
Wheelchair campaign participants speak
After spending her day in a wheelchair on 4 March, Leapfrog principal Michelle Cohen had this to say: “It is very inconvenient to be seated and need assistance to do the things we take for granted. The manner in which people engage with a person in a wheelchair was a total surprise to me.”
“Humbling”. “Difficult”. “A reality check”. This is what previous participants said of the experience.
“I had to get my head around was how much lower I was than everyone else,” said Chad Andrews, CEO of Lapp Southern Africa. Linda Blackbeard, CEO of Randburg Chamber of Commerce said the experience gave her “greater respect for people in wheelchairs.”
“I challenge the business owners in the Edenvale area to get on board to raise awareness and funds and help those who are unable to help themselves,” added Michelle Cohen.
Through the campaign, LITTLE EDEN aims to raise R1,5-million towards the care of our residents. Contact Zai Miller on 011 609 7246 or info@littleeden.org.za to join the campaign before the end of March. Or click here for more information.
