Softly spoken and unassuming, Sr Merin isn’t everyone’s idea of a super hero.
But if you think how much courage it takes to leave your home, your loved ones and everything that’s familiar to you … and travel over 7 000km to live and work in a strange country where they don’t speak your language – she certainly qualifies for the title.
Sr Merin is the latest of her Order – Sisters of the Imitation of Christ – to volunteer to care for our residents. Previously she worked for a similar organisation in India, and admits to being amazed by the level of care at LITTLE EDEN. Not only the care provided to the residents, but also the caring shown by management towards staff.
One of four nuns currently living and working at Elvira Rota Village, Sr Merin hopes to see something of the country during her time here – and is making the most of the opportunity to improve her command of the English language, with the help of residents Chantal and Antoinette.
