On 14 May 2021 a small group of staff, members of residents’ families, and representatives of the Board of Governors gathered at Elvira Rota Village for the official opening of Mary’s Mill, a new section for 26 older, more independent residents. The setup and layout are centred around their individual needs.
The name “Mary” was chosen to represent the devotion to Our Lady by the late Founder, Servant of God, Domitilla Hyams – as well as a tribute to the eldest daughter Mary Hyams, who has dedicated her life to caring for the residents of LITTLE EDEN.
A ‘Mill’ gives the idea of ‘hands on’ experience. Working at a mill requires hard labour, commitment … literally the ‘daily grind’ … and is there for the benefit of the community.
With the first phase of the building project completed, 30 residents from DDHH are scheduled to move to ERV. The second phase of renovations at DDHH – has begun. Improvements will include a frail care wing and a new, centralised nursing, medical and reception area.
