Music therapy is not only a source of joy to children and adults with profound intellectual disability, it also helps their vocal ability and breathing.
Before working with our Music Therapist, Sindi was only able to make limited, short sounds. Singing has helped improve her vocabulary and exercise her chest muscles and lungs to improve her breathing. It’s also a great way to express feelings!
At Elvira Rota Village, young Khutatso inspires everyone with her infectious giggle and determination to live life to the full. She loves exploring different musical instruments – especially the triangles and shaker – and singing her favourite song, Ba Ba Black Sheep which has helped her shine in our Starter Literacy Programme.
Her vocabulary has improved and she can answer questions related to a story. She now knows the names of the colours she uses to colour in pictures and is learning to count.
Our music and literacy programmes are made possible through your generous donations. Thank you for helping our angels develop to their full potential and live their best lives.
