It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of Julie on 18 February 2018 at the age of 59.
Julie was one of the first four little girls taken in and cared for in 1967 by the late Domitilla Hyams. The pair shared a special bond and Domitilla always kept a watchful eye on Julie to make sure she was happy and comfortable.
Whenever Domitilla visited Elvira Rota Village, the first thing she would ask was, “Where is Juliana?” The two would sit together and chat and exchange many hugs.
Julie’s instinctive capacity to nurture and care for others was evident from early on. She helped out in the kitchen for many years, where she buttered bread and washed and stacked plates. She also helped in the laundry with sorting and folding the clothes.
It was an emotional day for the Elvira Rota Village residents when Julie was moved back to Edenvale in 2016. She had become very frail and needed to be closer to specialised care.
As her fragility increased, her favourite hymn, Jesus loves me, increasingly served as a source of comfort, support and strength to her. Although Julie’s golden journey of 50 years at LITTLE EDEN has come to an end, she will always be remembered, especially whenever we sing Jesus loves me, this I know.
