At just 16 years old, Ntokozo’s world was shattered by a tragic car accident. Swerving to avoid a pedestrian, the vehicle he was travelling in collided with another. Ntokozo lost his mother in the crash and suffered a severe brain injury. This resulted in memory loss, behavioural challenges and right-sided hemiplegia. Apart from the physical trauma, he was left emotionally devastated and without the support he needed.
For years, Ntokozo lived in various old age homes, receiving minimal care and stimulation and surrounded by people twice his age. He developed contractures in his right had and suffered from severe depression.
A new home at LITTLE EDEN
In 2024, after years of uncertainty and hardship, Ntokozo found a new home at LITTLE EDEN and his life began to change. With the right care and support, he regained cognitive abilities, learning to read, write and engage in conversation. But what made the most impact was receiving a motorised wheelchair, which gave him a newfound sense of freedom and independence – something he had long been denied.
With this new independence, Ntokozo began to reconnect with the world. His love of music, sharp sense of humour and bond with therapy animals like dogs and horses, brought joy back into his life. He no longer just existed; he began to live again, discovering new ways to enjoy life and connect with others.
